A single late variety which flowers in May when many others have faded. 'Queen of the Night' is distinctive, with its deep maroon petals, almost black in some lights, making it quite the darkest of any tulip. Looks good when in small groups dotted around the border inbetween other shrubs and evergreens. Prefers a sunnier site (but not midday sun) or partial shade and will thrive in any well drained soil.
